SLEEPING POSITIONS | Part 2

Most Preferred Sleep Positions and Their Role in Personality and Health Aspects

“Soldier” Position

If you sleep on your back with your arms and legs straight and extended (like a soldier), you tend to be quiet and reserved, have very high standards, and find it hard to let people into your heart. You can be friendly and polite, but you carefully filter those you allow into your closest circle.

  • Personality traits: disciplined, reserved, and generally quiet people. They have high expectations of both themselves and others.
  • Health advice: This position helps maintain a straight spine but can cause acid reflux, snoring, and in some cases, sleep apnea.

On your stomach, with arms around the pillow

This sleep position is often called the “parachutist” or “free fall” because the sleeper lies on their stomach with arms stretched upward or wrapped around the pillow. These people are described as “social butterflies” — they love being outdoors and are always ready for new adventures. They dislike criticism, and if someone ever asks them for a favor, they first need to be made to feel like the most important and special person in the world.

  • Personality traits: bold, sociable, sometimes even cheeky. They are exceptional extroverts and love being the center of attention.
  • Health considerations: Sleeping on the stomach can strain the neck and may lead to potential back pain. It can also cause breathing difficulties.

On your side, hugging the pillow

If during sleep your body is turned to the side, hugging the pillow or often placing it between your legs, it shows you are extremely caring and devoted. You sincerely enjoy the time spent with family members or friends. You put family, loved ones, and your partner above everything else. You are not a workaholic and prefer to spend more time with your relatives. You are strongly oriented toward your loved ones and fully dedicated to caring for them. You tend to be very loyal to those you love. You are generous by nature and never hold back.

  • Personality traits: caring, altruistic, devoted, and generous. They are true friends and invaluable partners. Family means everything to them.
  • Health considerations: This sleep position can lead to numbness in the limbs and tension in the lower back and spine.

“Starfish” Position

If you most often sleep on your back with arms and legs stretched out to the sides, you value friendships and relationships, are not particularly talkative, and prefer not to be the center of attention. You are generous, love listening to others' stories, and share their pain and joy. You are empathetic and supportive; a true empath. You are selfless, devoted to people, and always ready to lend a helping hand.

  • Personality traits: Similar to the soldier position, starfish sleepers are good listeners, friendly, and helpful individuals. They are usually sincere and open to forming deep connections with others.
  • Health advice: This sleep position is also suitable for maintaining spinal alignment but may increase the likelihood of snoring and sleep apnea.

Sleep positions can provide a general idea about personality traits, but they are not definitive indicators of the specifics of human character. Many factors, including personal preferences, comfort, and health considerations, influence how people sleep. Nevertheless, they serve as a valuable guide leading to the following summaries: back sleepers are confident and independent; stomach sleepers are emotionally sensitive and impulsive; side sleepers are compassionate and caring; and those preferring the fetal position tend to be shy, introverted, and insecure.

Do you agree with these statements, and did you find yourself in any of the descriptions above?
