Comfort during sleep is a personal sensation and a matter of individual preference. People sleep on their backs, sides, or stomachs. Depending on this, the recommended firmness level and the composition of the mattress vary.
Choosing the right mattress involves considering factors such as sleeping position, body type, and personal comfort preferences. Experts agree that quality sleep is one of the best ways to maintain and improve our health, and the mattress plays a significant role in our ability to sleep well.
There are several types of mattresses on the market, including memory foam mattresses, spring mattresses, latex mattresses, hybrid mattresses, and eco-friendly mattresses.
Choosing a mattress is primarily based on personal judgment and preference. However, we can conclude that a memory foam mattress is ideal for lighter individuals and those with an average weight, as well as for couples and families. It is especially preferred by people who sleep on their stomach or side, or suffer from chronic and severe back, joint, and lower back pain. A spring mattress, on the other hand, is best suited for active athletes and individuals who primarily sleep on their back. It is also the perfect solution for those who cannot tolerate high temperatures, especially during their rest at night.
Single-sided mattresses have only one surface that can be used, while double-sided mattresses have two sleeping sides. Another key difference lies in the base construction. Single-sided mattresses have wooden elements positioned on the bottom, without any padding, as this side is not meant for sleeping. In contrast, double-sided mattresses require an additional bed frame, which is usually sold separately and is not included with the mattress purchase. Single-sided mattresses do not require flipping, making them easier to maintain. However, they may not last as long as double-sided ones, which can be flipped and rotated to evenly distribute wear, thus extending their lifespan. Double-sided mattresses are more traditional, offer greater durability and comfort, but require more care and attention.
There is no definitive answer as to whether a firm or soft mattress is better, as it depends on several factors such as body weight, sleeping position, personal preferences, and health conditions. Generally speaking, heavier individuals and those who sleep on their back or stomach may prefer firmer mattresses, as they provide better support and help prevent excessive sinking. On the other hand, lighter individuals and side sleepers might opt for softer mattresses, as they contour to the body and relieve pressure points. We recommend trying out different mattresses to find the one that suits you best. Our team will be happy to assist you and answer any questions you may have.
The winter side of the mattress is typically filled with warmer, cozier materials such as wool. It is designed to retain body heat when temperatures are lower.
The summer side is made from fresh and breathable fibers like cotton, linen, or silk. It is intended to be cooler and softer, providing a refreshing sleeping experience during the warmer months.
How to tell which side is for summer and which is for winter?
a) Icons on the mattress label: Some mattresses feature an icon indicating the warm/cold side on the label.
b) Surface feel: The summer side of the mattress is generally softer and cooler to the touch, while the winter side tends to feel firmer.
For TED mattresses with both summer and winter sides, you can take advantage of this feature in the models: Matterra, Nuvola, and Nord Star.
a) Winter side: We recommend using the side with wool/polyester quilting or memory foam.
b) Summer side: We recommend using the side with cotton/polyester quilting and avoiding the memory foam side.

The height of the mattress matters because it affects comfort, support, and ease of getting in and out of bed. The ideal mattress height depends on personal preferences, body weight, height, and sleep position. Typically, heavier individuals need thicker mattresses to prevent sagging or compression, while taller people may need longer mattresses to avoid having their feet hang off the edge. Sleep position also influences mattress height, as some positions require more cushioning or firmness than others.
Correctly measuring your mattress is crucial for ensuring a good fit in your bedroom. You need to determine its length, width, and depth.
a) Measuring the width – measure the width from one side of the mattress to the other.
b) Measuring the length – measure the length from the top (where the head is positioned) to the bottom (where the feet are positioned) of the mattress.
c) Measuring the depth – to measure the depth, place the measuring tape at the bottom of the mattress and measure upwards towards the center of the bed.
The cover/quilting of the mattress is a very important part of the product. It regulates heat and moisture during sleep, and these two characteristics significantly impact the quality of your sleep.
A quality mattress can significantly impact your health and ability to sleep well. The benefits include reducing allergies, eliminating stress, promoting proper spinal alignment, decreasing pain, and addressing excessive tossing and turning during the night.
Although we spend 33% of our lives sleeping, most of us only pay attention to our mattress when we start having sleep problems. For millions of people worldwide, lack of quality sleep leads to stress, lack of concentration, headaches, stiffness, and other similar issues during the day. This can easily be avoided. Purchasing a mattress is a long-term investment, and the benefits of a well-chosen, quality-made product, selected with care and according to the sleeper’s needs, will pay off over time.
Choosing the right mattress is essential during the first months of a child's life, as babies from 0 to 6 months need a firm support to sleep on. A firm baby mattress helps prevent the risk of suffocation, as the baby cannot lift its head when sleeping on a surface that is too soft. After this period, sleeping on a softer surface can become an option. If you choose a memory foam surface, make sure it is not too thick to avoid deformation of the child's spine.
Cleaning a mattress involves several steps, such as vacuuming with an upholstery attachment, using an enzyme cleaner, or sprinkling baking soda. It’s also recommended to rotate your mattress every three months to help it wear more evenly and last longer.
The feeling of comfort varies depending on the type of spring used in the core. They can be either soft or very firm, but regardless of the sensation, spring mattresses remain highly durable and resistant to wear over time.
It’s a common misconception that the springs in a mattress wear out quickly. In fact, this is not true—the spring unit is usually the last component to deteriorate. More often, it's the additional materials such as foam, latex, memory foam, or felt that wear down over time. In single-sided mattresses, these layers tend to compress into the base, while in double-sided ones, they lose their shape and comfort. That’s why it’s recommended to replace your main sleep surface—the mattress—every few years. For comparison, we tend to use our bedding much less intensively, yet we replace it more frequently. True bedroom hygiene, however, goes beyond just clean sheets.
Under normal conditions, mattresses should be replaced every 6 to 8 years. This is a general guideline, not a strict rule. The actual time to replace your mattress depends on factors like its condition and the quality of sleep it provides.
Some of the signs include waking up feeling tired, difficulty falling asleep, aches and pains, and hearing squeaks from the mattress. If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time for a replacement.
Spring mattresses typically last around 10 years or more, even with regular use. However, we recommend replacing a mattress every 7-8 years for hygiene reasons.
The recommended usage time for a mattress is typically tied to the actual warranty period provided by the manufacturer. It's important to rotate the mattress regularly (every 6 months) to ensure even wear. The rotation should be both horizontal and vertical, meaning not just switching from the winter/summer side, but also flipping the head/foot direction. Regular flipping will help you enjoy your mattress for as long as possible.
Each coil in the spring systems is thermally hardened, which preserves their shape and elasticity throughout their entire lifespan.
On the side: When we sleep on our side, the pressure on the most prominent parts of our body – the shoulder, hip, and pelvis – increases due to our body weight. This can lead to pain and numbness if the mattress does not respond properly to the pressure. Therefore, people who typically sleep in this position find comfort in soft or medium-soft mattresses.
On the back: Sleeping on your back is considered by some to be the healthiest sleeping position. Medium-firm to firm mattresses are ideal for this position as they provide the right support to keep the spine aligned.
On the stomach: This position is less preferred, as it can make it difficult to position the spine correctly. It is recommended to use a low pillow or sleep without one to achieve better comfort. Medium-firm mattresses are suggested for this sleeping position.
Spring mattresses are recommended for relieving back pain, such as strains and stiffness. The reason for this is that the springs do not apply pressure to the body, while still providing orthopedic comfort.
The coils in each "pocket" are enclosed under slight tension. This way, they are in a constant state of "readiness" and react even to the slightest pressure applied to them.
One of the key factors is that there is no movement transfer between the individual "pockets." This means that even if your partner sleeps restlessly, you won't feel it through the mattress's reaction.
Mattress production can have a negative impact on the environment, from the materials and chemical components used to the packaging and transportation methods. Sustainable mattress manufacturing practices are essential to reduce their adverse effects on the resources of our planet.
Some of the latest trends in the mattress industry include the use of recycled materials in their production and the availability of fully customized mattresses. Personalization seems to be the most important feature for those purchasing new beds.
Fiber-filled pillows are softer and more adaptable – they easily take the shape of your head and neck, providing gentle support. The volume of the filling determines their firmness and level of support.
Foam pillows offer great comfort and naturally conform to the body’s curves. Depending on the type of foam, they can range from firmer to softer, with memory foam being the softest and most adaptive. Some models are enriched with cooling gel that helps regulate body temperature during sleep.
Pillow with springs provide excellent support and enhanced air circulation within the core. This makes them breathable and hygienic. They are also hypoallergenic and suitable for people with sensitivities.
Quality sleep means deep and uninterrupted rest. To achieve this, we need to ensure the most comfortable conditions in advance, allowing us to fully recharge during the night. Choosing a comfortable mattress is the most important factor for quality sleep.
Take enough time to choose your sleep products carefully. Even when browsing in the store, it's a good idea to spend at least 15 minutes testing and trying them out. Studies show that the impressions you get from a mattress after 10-15 minutes on it are a very accurate reflection of how it will feel after longer use. Be well-informed about the structure and materials used in the product. Share your preferences and understanding of comfort with the store consultant.
You shouldn't go to bed feeling tense or angry. Take a moment to wish yourself something positive, repeat a favorite uplifting thought in your mind, and let go of any mental stress. This will help you fully enjoy the hours in the land of dreams.
This is an innovative sensor mat that measures the pressure exerted by the body on the mattress, and based on this data, recommends the most suitable model for optimal comfort and support.
